Coldai lake

Fantastic excursion in the Zoldo valley, at the foot of the Civetta and in front of the "Caregon of the Eternal Father", the Pelmo. Wonderful sunny and fresh day in the morning, arrival at Palafavera refuge: Giorgia and I are ready for today's adventure! Near the refuge you can take advantage of a comfortable chair lift to save yourself the first meters of altitude. Thus we reach the altitude of 1800mt from which we have a spectacular view of the Pelmo which seems to touch it. On the opposite side you can see the entire route to be taken to get to the Coldai refuge. A little later you reach a plain where there is a hut, currently closed, and you can see a myriad of paths, junctions and streets with the signs of the various winter ski slopes: here in fact we are in the paradise of the Civetta Dolomiti Superski slopes . The path in the direction of the refuge at Coldai is immediately distinguished by the presence of boulders, well disposed, to form a mule track. Unfortunately, the continuous flow of people have ruined and smoothed the stones, making the path difficult in some places.

The main path is constantly crossed by shortcuts, sometimes barely hinted at, other times they replace the main path since most people choose it as their favorite track. A series of hairpin bends quickly lead to altitude and on 2000mt you reach Busa del Toro: an imposing boulder overlooking the path that allows you to catch your breath before the final climb. Here you can always see and hear the calls of the marmots: even today there was no shortage and we saw a beautiful lookout marmot on a boulder below us, in the direction of Forno di Zoldo. After the final demanding piece, you finally reach the refuge with its splendid terrace overlooking the Pelmo and Val Zoldana. A short stop and off to the Coldai fork, a last effort with a rather rough and landslide path that leads to an altitude of almost 2200m. Here you have a wonderful surprise: the view of a beautiful lake, small, but of great impact. Coldai Lake is a mirror of emerald water that gives alone the relaxation that satisfies the entire excursion. By skirting the lake it is possible to reach a top that allows you to see Alleghe and its large lake overhanging under your feet. From here you can continue for the Tissi refuge and for the more daring for the Civetta tour. The return is covered by the same path of the outward journey, being careful of the rough rocks that do not facilitate the descent. Once you reach Palafavera again, a nice slice of dessert crowned an unforgettable excursion!
