Caglieron’s caves

On this hot and sunny day, accompanied by Giorgia and my brother Leonardo, we reached the Caglieron Caves. In Fregona, a few kilometers from Vittorio Veneto is this place, created in part by man, which gives magical emotions. A ring route starts a few steps from the large parking lot. First stop is the Grotta della Madonna with a small church inside.

The path winds and enters majestic caves composed of sandstone. In some, the signs of the chisels once used to extract the "piera dolza" (soft stone), the sandstone precisely used for the construction of the houses in the area, are very well noted. To maintain the structure of the cave during the extraction, large stone columns have been maintained which make the quarries characteristic. Entering into the heart of the caves, you can see water games, rushing waterfalls and steep rivulets that form very beautiful and fascinating reservoirs. The completely wooden walkway that goes into the largest cave leaves you speechless! An excursion of just over an hour, suitable for everyone, young and old (without a stroller) who will be amazed by these games of lights, shadows and water!
