Pelf Peak

Top two steps from the Schiara

End of October and the weather is still mild to say the least. Sunny day (without a cloud in the sky all day). Perfect day for the summit of Mount Pelf at 2502mt. Departure from Fortogna on a dirt road mixed with asphalt for 7 km. Very narrow, original for the rock overlooking the road and for the tunnel dug entirely in the rock! Arrival in Cajada, ample parking and departure towards the Schiara group. The path starts gently in the woods, passing from the fir tree to the group of beech trees where it seems, at times, to be in Pian Cansiglio. The colors of autumn make the first appearance (strange for the season that should be in full swing), continuing on path 505, once past the junction for the Tanzon fork, the path begins to become less visible and demanding. The apex is found at the foot of the gorge between two rocky massifs on both sides. The gully leads, with difficulty, to the Caneva fork. After a short descent you arrive at the crossroads (marked with a little visible wooden pole) which allows you to go straight to the VII Alpine refuge, or to the right towards the top of Mount Pelf.

I found a hiker returning from the summit and calculating the road traveled at speed up to that point, I calculated that in 1 hour and 40 minutes I would reach the top and then confirm the choice towards the summit of the Pelf. The path begins, and remains, always very steep, poorly marked but the small red dots on the rocks are clearly visible in the strategic points. I turn the Sass del Mel leaving it on the right and continue on the ridge starting to see a breathtaking view. At the end of the ridge you arrive on the summit with little stones. From here you can clearly see the summit and the small and short path equipped to help in the simple climbing passages to reach the top. At the top there is a spectacular 360 ° from Valbelluna, to Schiara which is 60m higher, up to Marmolada, Civetta, the Pelmo is perfectly in front in all its majesty, the Tofane, the Antelao which had a pink color never seen , to conclude towards Col Nudo and Serva. Really gifted day given the season: incredible!

Difficulty

Expert hikers - are generally signposted itineraries but with some difficulties: the terrain can consist of slippery slopes of grass, mixed rocks and grass, stony ground, slight snowy slopes or even single easy-to-climb rocky passages (use of hands in some places) . Although they are routes that do not require particular equipment, equipped sections can be presented even if they are not demanding. They require a good knowledge of the alpine environment, a safe step and the absence of vertigo. Physical preparation must be adequate for a fairly continuous day of walking.
