Day destined for the summit of Mont Blanc. The weather is splendid at 2 am. As soon as we leave, after a hasty breakfast, the glacier is dotted with fireflies in procession. The fronts of the ropes reach the difficult serac seen the day before. Looking up to the sky, I see the spectacle that repays the entire expedition and the entire journey: the sky is truly quilted with millions of stars never seen before, if not in documentaries and films. I try to take pictures, but the tools we have cannot fully capture the moment. Already on the glacier plain as soon as they come out of the Cosmiques I feel Marco trudging along and his step becomes heavier.

It must have been the bad dinner the night before, the use of Diamox incorrectly by Marco or just too much emotion. The fact is that it could not continue. We go back reluctantly to the Cosmiques. 1 At 5, after Marco recovered a bit, we set off again for the Torino refuge and directly in Courmayeur. We immediately take the car and go home. As fast as to leave that attempt to ascend Mont Blanc frozen. As if to say: "wait for us, we'll be back soon!". The mountain is made up of conquests, magical peaks, but also of renunciations. This year I tested my preparation and added some pieces to the experience. Mont Blanc wait for me!
